The University of Otago's wireless/Wi-Fi network is a WPA2-Enterprise network so any device connecting to this network must be capable of using this protocol. This means you will not be able to use a gaming console (such as PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo etc.) or a smart home device (such as Amazon Alexa or Echo, Google Home, or Nest etc.) because generally these types of devices do not support WPA2-Enterprise. The University-owned residential colleges below are affected by this:

  • Aquinas College
  • Arana College
  • Caroline Freeman College
  • Carrington College
  • Cumberland College
  • Hayward College
  • Studholme College
  • Te Rangi Hiroa College
  • Toroa College
  • University College (Unicol)

The other University-affiliated residential colleges use their own network infrastructure, and St. Margaret’s College has a complete standalone service, so if you are a resident at any of these colleges you will need to contact your college administration to see if these devices are supported.
