Although Otago does not offer a specific PhD by publication programme (where publications are bound together for submission), you are encouraged to include publications in a PhD thesis where it is appropriate to do so.

Published material can be included providing:

  1. Copyright permission has been obtained
  2. The material is reformatted to be consistent with the thesis chapter format

In practice this usually involves writing an introductory chapter that explains which parts of the thesis have been published, where they are published, and the role of the candidate and any co-authors in the published material.
