What Are Learning Labs?

AskOtago Student IT Services run short interactive sessions known as Learning Labs. These can be for individuals or for small groups. The aim is to help you make the most of the available technology to give you advantages and enhancing your studies.

How do Learning Labs work, and when do they run?

Learning Labs generally run Monday to Saturday, between the hours of 10am and 7pm. No booking is required. For the latest Learning Labs and times, visit the AskOtago Student IT Learning labs website:

Student IT — Learning labs

The Student IT Representative will begin the session by asking some questions to get a better sense of the needs of the particular students attending, and then go over the software most likely to be useful. Feel free to bring your own device to follow along with the tutorial, and ask as many questions as you need.

Current Learning Labs

Student IT currently run Learning Labs on:

  • Cloud storage
  • Collaboration tools — making the most of your study group through effective communication and sharing
  • Managing your time — Using Google Calendar to keep track of your lectures, labs and assignments
  • Notetaking — Using OneNote, Google Docs, and tips for printing your slides efficiently
