Most departments now use the "scan-to-email" functionality on their printer/multi-function device (MFD) to email documents instead of sending faxes.

Scanning documents to email

However if you need to receive or send a fax and can't do this in your department, you can use the centralised fax service via AskOtago. This service is available 7:00am–9:00pm, Monday to Friday and 8:30am–6:00pm, Saturday and Sunday. Contact Campus Watch if you need to send/receive a fax outside of these hours.

Receiving a fax

Ask your sender to fax to the central fax number +64 3 479 8186 and include your name and University department clearly on the first page.

When it arrives, the fax will be converted into an email message and sent to you by AskOtago.

If you are expecting a fax that has been sent to the central fax service and you haven’t received it yet, contact AskOtago:

Sending a fax

AskOtago can send a fax on your behalf. To do this, either:

  • Email your fax to Attach it as a document to your email and include a coversheet with the recipient's details on it (fax number, name, etc.), or
  • Bring the hard copy of the fax to the AskOtago Central Hub in the Information Services Building, Dunedin campus.

Your fax request will be logged and you will receive confirmation by email once your fax has been sent successfully.
