As a student at the University of Otago, you have access to a range of free or discounted software both for your own computer and on the Student Desktop.
For your own computer
The University of Otago recommends Sophos Endpoint Security, which can be downloaded for free directly from the Sophos website:

EndNote software is free for all University students. Your EndNote licence entitles you to use EndNote on your home computer for University work while you are enrolled. You are also entitled to any upgrades released to the University. You can request EndNote through ITS:

SPSS, NVivo, GraphPad Prism, MATLAB
Complete a software licence form to request any of the following:
If you are a postgraduate student you can have SPSS installed on your home computer for University work, with the licence paid for by your department.
If you are an undergraduate student, you can install SPSS on your home computer for University work as long as you pay for the licence personally. The cost is $53.00 plus GST per year.

Your department must order the MATLAB software and both you and a departmental authority must sign the software request form. The department is responsible for installing MATLAB onto your computer.
