During COVID-19 restrictions, no drop-in appointments for Student Visa Services are available. Please send your questions by email to email@example.com
All international students must have a valid visa that allows them to study at the University of Otago.

Applying for a student visa
If you're already in New Zealand and hold a student visa, you may be able to apply for your visa on-campus at the International Office. Student Visa Services are located at the International Office, in the north end of the Clocktower Building—enter through the main doors opposite the Leith river and ask at reception:
If you are outside of New Zealand, do not currently hold a valid student visa, or are not eligible to apply for your visa on-campus, you will need to apply for your student visa directly through Immigration New Zealand. If you have any questions about this process please contact the Student Visa Services team.
Returning students will need to email firstname.lastname@example.org and request a Confirmation of Enrolment letter. The letter you can download yourself in eVision is not accepted by Immigration New Zealand.
Renewal of student visa on campus
International students currently studying full-time at Otago may be eligible to apply to extend their visa through Student Visa Services on campus.
There are some exceptions. If any of the following applies to you then you'll need to apply for your visa through the Immigration New Zealand website:
- You don't currently hold a valid student visa
- You're not currently, or were not during the last enrolment period, a full-time student (unless you are an undergraduate finalist)
- You're currently under the University of Otago's Academic Progress Policy, or under a similar policy on a professional programme
- You're here on a Student Exchange programme
