Issues validating your My Vaccine Pass

There are several reasons why your My Vaccine Pass may not be able to be verified automatically.

Firstly, please ensure you are using an official My Vaccine Pass that has been issued to you by the New Zealand Ministry of Health. Evidence of vaccination or vaccination passports provided in other countries will not work. If you were vaccinated overseas, you will need to add your overseas vaccinations to the New Zealand COVID Immunisation Register and then obtain a New Zealand “My Vaccine Pass.”

Special characters or hyphens in your name

If there are special characters (e.g. accents, umlauts, etc.) in your name, these may appear on your University account but not on your My Vaccine Pass. You can visit the AskOtago hub in the Dunedin campus Central Library and have your pass validated in person. You will need to provide your My Vaccine Pass and valid photo ID.

If you are not able to visit the Dunedin campus to verify in person, please contact AskOtago.

Legal name not in the University system

If your legal name is not in the University system (e.g. your maiden name) but is correct on your My Vaccine Pass then you have two options:

  • Change your name in the University system:
    • Instructions for students to do this are available in the related answer Changing name details
    • Staff should contact HR if their names are not correct in the University system.
    • Contractors should contact their hiring manager if their names are not correct in the University system.
  • Verify your pass in person at the AskOtago hub in the Dunedin campus Central Library. You will need to provide an official change of name document (e.g. marriage certificate) as well as your My Vaccine Pass and photo ID. If you are not able to visit the Dunedin campus to verify in person, please contact AskOtago.

Name incorrect on your My Vaccine Pass

If your name is incorrect on your My Vaccine Pass, you will need to contact the Ministry of Health either by calling 0800 222 478 or completing the Change of Details form found on the My Covid Record website.

Once you have been issued a new pass, please attempt to verify again.
