The University of Otago's wireless/Wi-Fi network is a WPA2- enterprise network so any device connecting to this network must be capable of using this protocol. This means you will not be able to use a gaming console (such as PlayStation/Xbox/Nintendo etc.) or a smart home device (such as Amazon Alexa or Echo, Google Home or Nest etc.) because generally these types of devices do not support WPA2-Enterprise. The University-owned residential colleges below are affected by this:
- Aquinas College
- Arana College
- Caroline Freeman College
- Carrington College
- Cumberland College
- Hayward College
- Studholme College
- Te Rangi Hiroa College
- Toroa College
- University College (Unicol)
The other University-affiliated residential colleges use their own network infrastructure, and St. Margaret’s College has a complete standalone service, so if you are a resident at any of these colleges you will need to contact your college administration to see if these devices are supported.
