Successful PhD study at the University of Otago depends on the development and nurturing of good supervisory relationships between candidates and their supervisors.

The University recognises that from time to time supervisors external to the University (including retired University staff) will be required to complement the supervisory team of a particular candidate. These external supervisors should not use an "External" username, but instead a staff one that is purpose-built by Human Resources for these situations.
