You can connect to shared drives ("shared network folders" or "shares") on HCS, Kale, or Pandora via the University network or when using VPN by following the instructions below.

If you do not know the full path for the shared drive, see the related answer: How to find an HCS/shared drive file path

If you need to connect to a UOW shared drive, please contact IT Support Services Wellington for assistance

MacOS

  1. Click on Finder in the Dock (usually at the left end or top) or click on the Desktop.
  2. From the Go menu at the top of your screen, select Connect to Server… or press the Command (⌘) and K keys on your keyboard.
  3. Under Server Address: type the address of the shared drive you want to connect to:
    • smb://storage.hcs-p01.otago.ac.nz/<share-name>
      or for UOW staff:
    • smb://kale.uow.wnmeds.ac.nz/homes$/<username> (for your network home folder) or
    • smb://pandora.uow.wnmeds.ac.nz/<share-name>
Replace <share-name> with the name of the shared drive, or <username> with your UOW username.
      --> or for UOC staff:
    • smb://storage.hcs-chc.otago.ac.nz/uoc-shared (for the Christchurch U: drive)
    • smb://storage.hcs-chc.otago.ac.nz/<share-name> (for other HCS shares located on Christchurch HCS hardware)
      • Note: If you want to add this to your Favourite Servers list, click the plus (+) button.

  3. Select Map network drive… from the pop-up menu.
  4. Next to Folder, type the address of the shared drive you want to connect to:

  5. Click Finish.
  6. If you are asked for a password when trying to open:
    • For HCS (including hcs-chc) shared drives, enter your University staff username and password, in the format of registry\<yourusername> (for staff), or student\<yourusername> e.g. registry\bonja97p or student\bonja879
