A network outlet (port):

  • is required for a wired network connection
  • has a white faceplate with identifying letters and numbers on it for each outlet
  • needs to be activated to provide access to the network
  • can be activated for access to different network services

If you need a new network outlet, talk to your Property Services sector manager first. They will investigate what is required for outlet installation and give your department a quote.

Once your new network outlet has been installed, submit the Network Outlet online form to activate it. Use this form if you wish to activate or deactivate an existing network outlet. Find out if an existing network outlet is active by plugging your computer into it and confirming you have network connectivity.

You can request the activation of a network port to use with a phone by logging in to the Ask IT Customer Portal using your University username and password.
