If you're a University of Otago staff member or student, you won't be able to access the UO_Guest network using your University staff or student credentials because UO_Guest accounts use a different authentication system. You should access the University network via one of the other options available to you:


If your device has previously logged in to another University of Otago network using a University username (staff, student, or external), you will not be able to access the UO_Guest network on that device.

Your UO_Guest account will expire exactly 14 days after it was created, or 7 days of no use. Your internet access will stop as soon as the account expiry time is reached. If you still need access, create a new account by clicking on the Don’t have an account? link on the UO_Guest login page.

If you use MacOS 10.9.2 with the inbuilt Safari browser, you may find that when you attempt to access the UO_Guest service, your browser will time out without connecting. This is a known issue with the following workarounds:

  • Upgrade your operating system to 10.9.5 or later
  • Change your default browser to either Chrome or Firefox
