Most locations on campus will now have access to the UO_WIFI network. 

If your location has access to the UO_WIFI network (also known as the Future State Network) a wireless service name (SSID) of "UO_WIFI" will be visible on your mobile device, and you can log in using your University username and password. You will not need to register your mobile device.

Some areas of campus may also still see older/legacy networks called UO-STAFF, UO-STUDENT, UO-EXTERNAL or UO-GUEST – do not connect to these - use UO_WIFI if it’s available.

Connecting to UO_WIFI

If you’re unable to connect to UO_WIFI and need to connect to the UO-STAFF and UO-EXTERNAL networks, your device will need to be registered. If you have more than one mobile device to connect, you will need to register each one separately. If you want to use your device/s on these networks on other University of Otago campuses you will also need to register them for each campus.

You will need to provide the following information:

  • Your departmental account code (usually in the form GL10xxx00)
  • The Ethernet address of your device (see below)
  • The network you want to connect to (UO-STAFF or UO-EXTERNAL) , and if you are connecting to UO-STAFF, the campus you require access for (Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland and/or Southland)
  • A description of your device so it can be identified easily on the network (i.e. Joe Bloggs iPhone 6S S/N:GLX546LP)

Some devices will have different addresses for wired and wireless access. Follow the instructions below to find which address you will need to use:
