To reduce the risk of getting malware on your computer:
- Install anti-virus software and run regular scans
- If you are using a University computer, anti-virus software should be installed by your Desktop Support team
- Regularly update your anti-virus
- If you are using a University computer, this should happen automatically via ITS updates
- Don't download pirated software, as it is more likely to contain malware
- Use your common sense when surfing the internet and when downloading material from websites
- Only plug in trusted USB drives to your computer
- Don't click on links or attachments in spam email
- Use a current web browser and consider using security add-ons (such as uBlock Origin, NoScript, or FlashBlock)
- Take IT Training courses on computer security when available
