If you are considering buying insurance or an extended warranty for your computer or device, please note that:
- You may want to purchase a warranty for your computer or device to cover the duration of your course
- In general, the more expensive your computer, the longer and more comprehensive warranty you should get
- You should consider three or four year warranties for a mid- to high-end computer. There is debate about the cost-effectiveness of extended warranties but you should keep in mind that sometimes only the original manufacturers will have the spare parts and expertise to perform repairs on your computer. You also have some protection via the Consumer Guarantees Act.
- Extended warranties for mobile devices are often not necessary since models become obsolete two or three years after purchase
