High Capacity Central File Storage (HCS) is a University of Otago service supplying easily-accessed file storage from your desktop. Files are automatically backed up as part of this service and the system can cater for varying storage requirements. There is no charge to individual staff for using the HCS service. In most cases, HCS is included as part of a Central Costs (ITS) allocation to departments.

HCS is ideal for ongoing secure storage of research data, as OURDrive, the University's electronic document and record management system, is not used for storing this sort of information.

HCS replaces the Celerra file sharing and storage service. Space on HCS is allocated to departments or teams as required.

Log in to the Ask IT Customer Portal if you are interested in getting high capacity storage (HCS) for your department.

You will need to advise:

  • how much storage you require
  • which department the storage is for
  • who will be the contact person for your department's files
