If you are planning to record your Zoom videoconference, here are some points that you should take into consideration:
Do you have permission?
Please respect the privacy of your meeting attendees and make sure that everyone has been informed that the meeting/event will be recorded. Note that their permission has been given.
Additionally, Zoom has a visual notification that advises that the meeting is being recorded for those joined on a computer or mobile device and an audible notification for those using a phone.
What will you use the recording for?
You need to explain the purpose and value of the recording to your participants so that this is understood by everyone involved.
Where will the recording be stored?
Safe and secure storage of your recording is important to help ensure prevention against any inappropriate access to or use of the recording. Please take care to maintain the security of recorded files.
How long should the recording be kept?
Ensure that the timeframe for keeping the recording is appropriate for the purpose and this has been conveyed to the participants. The recording should not be kept for longer than is necessary.
Do you need audio and video, or just audio?
Zoom allows for audio-only capture so in some situations (such as recording meeting minutes) it may be appropriate to only retain the audio capture (.m4a file) rather than the full audio and video file (.mp4).
