The University of Otago recommends the Studentsafe Inbound University insurance. This is a comprehensive policy supported by all the universities in New Zealand and has been designed with international students specifically in mind.
All international students will be charged for the Studentsafe policy, unless you have been in contact with the International Office at the University of Otago six weeks before the start of the semester about your alternative insurance policy and you have been advised it’s compliant.
To apply for the Studentsafe Inbound University insurance policy you need to accept your offer of a place in eVision, then complete the insurance declaration during course enrolment.
Once this step is completed an insurance record will be created and an invoice for your insurance will be added to your My Account page in eVision. The invoice might not be generated until after you arrive on campus.
There is no application form required unless you:
- have a pre-existing medical condition, and/or
- are over 60 years of age, and/or
- wish to include your partner and/or children in the policy
You are not covered for pre-existing medical conditions under the Studentsafe Inbound University policy. Cover can be arranged in certain circumstances.
